VACANCY: Researcher, for Academic Study of Opinions on the Death Penalty in Indonesia.
LBH Masyarakat (LBHM) and Death Penalty Project (DPP) are seeking qualified researcher(s) to take part in an Academic Study of Opinions on the Death Penalty in Indonesia.
The Death Penalty Project (DPP) is a legal action charity based in London. The DPP provides free legal representation to individuals facing the death penalty around the world. To complement our legal activities, we commission independent legal research on criminal justice issues, conduct capacity building activities, and engage in dialogue and consultation with policy makers and key stakeholders.
In association with the University of Indonesia, DPP and LBHM are currently conducting an academic study of opinions on the death penalty, the aim of which is to gather the views of influential opinion leaders on what steps might be taken, if any, in relation to the legal status and use of the death penalty in Indonesia. The DPP have commissioned a leading international academic, Professor Carolyn Hoyle (University of Oxford, UK), to design the questionnaire and analyse the responses.
Professor Hoyle will author the report based on a series of one-to-one interviews with Indonesian ‘opinion leaders’ – including policy makers, members of parliament, members of the judiciary, prosecutors, law enforcement officials/police, religious leaders, senior academics and the media. These interviews – to be conducted by the Researcher – will focus on attitudes towards the death penalty and the administration of justice in capital cases. The Researcher will be trained in the relevant research methodologies by Dr. Claudia Stoicescu.
Job description:
- Conduct 20-25 one-to-one interviews. These will be predominantly based in Jakarta (no more than 10 interviews will be outside of Jakarta). All reasonable travel costs incurred during the fieldwork will be covered.
- Transcription of interview records.
Deadline application:
