What is LIGHTS?
LIGHTS, short for Living in Human Rights, is an intensive human rights introductory program for university students that has been held by LBH Masyarakat (LBHM) since 2008. Through LIGHTS, LBHM offers participants the opportunity to join and become part of LBHM’s working body as a way to sustain the human rights movement that we have been championing for more than 17 years.
Why Learn About Human Rights Through LIGHTS?
LBHM believes that early and intensive education for anyone can contribute to meaningful human rights advocacy and public campaign. LIGHTS is designed to fulfill that purpose. As an institution committed to promoting justice and humanity, LBHM also sees it as a responsibility to expand public knowledge about human rights and democracy.
Who Can Join LIGHTS?
The program targets university students and members of marginalized communities whose rights are often violated and whose participation is rarely considered in democratic processes and policymaking. Through critical education, we aim to empower these groups to foster a more democratic policy environment that upholds human rights and protects the vulnerable.
What Will You Learn in LIGHTS?
Over the course of 14 days (2 weeks), participants will receive comprehensive materials on human rights. They will explore human rights theories, learn about their practical application, and visit government bodies and civil society organizations that are also committed to the promotion of human rights.
